Rural Community Visits

Over the past years we sent groups of UBC LTS-PP volunteers to Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Kelowna, Port Alberni, Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos, Houston, Whitehorse, Destruction Bay, Haines Junction, Carcross, and Teslin! all visits were exceptionally amazing and successful and the feedback has been splendid. We'd love to keep sending our volunteers across the province to interact with the next generation of scientists! If you want to plan, organize, or take part in a trip - let us know!

If you're an educator or parent in a rural community in BC and would like to have LTS-PP volunteers visit, please email us at lts (at) ubclts.com

SMaRT (Scientific Method and Research Training)
(run jointly with the UBC Learning Exchange)
This program runs during the winter semester (~5 visits over 8 weeks) and features regular visits to an elementary school classroom by LTS and LE volunteers focused on teaching the scientific method through hands-on activities. While each program can differ, it is generally coupled with a science project of sorts that the volunteers help lead the students through.

The All Science Challenge

The All-Science Challenge is a competition for grade 6-8 students in Vancouver quizzes student’s knowledge of beyond-the-classroom fun science facts and features two hands-on science events. Contestants, in teams of up to four, will learn about all areas of science from a manual that we provide, then come to UBC for a full day to compete for the title of ALL SCIENCE CHALLENGE CHAMPION!! We are also inviting student spectators along with their teachers to attend and cheer on the spectators!

There will be awesome prizes for all contestants, including a grand prize for the All Science Challenge Champs!

Also, grade 6 to 8 students at 10 other Canadian universities will be participating in a similar event hosted in parallel by the LTS Partnership Program sites located at their local universities!!!
