UBC LTS-PP All Star Volunteers 2005-2006
We recognized our “All-Star” volunteers at our Annual General Meeting in June 2006. This distinction is given to any volunteer who completes 8 or more activities in a single school year. For 2005/06, they are:

Alfredo Franco-Cea participated in the Musqueam Invitational Soccer tournament, a UBC Bookstore Harry Potter event, a GSS Saturday Science event, an event at the Langley Science and Nature Store, the All Science Challenge and went on a Rural visit to Port Alberni.
Derrick Randall coordinated the Rural Expansion initiative, participating in 2 of the visits himself, helped out at Killarney and Monck Provincial Park day camps, did various science fairs and participated in SMaRT skills. As a result of his outstanding work, he was awarded the National Volunteer Award! Yah Derrick!!!!
Heather Coleman did 3 classroom visits with her partner Lisa McDonnell, volunteered at 3 science fairs, helped at the All Science Challenge and participated in the Monck Provincial Park day camp.
Jeff Fletcher helped at a UBC Bookstore event, helped edit the All Science Challenge manual and conducted 4 classroom visits. Jeff is gifted at developing fun, hands-on activities that many of our other volunteers use as well.
Kendra Getty conducted 5 classroom visits with her partner Lars Rose (All-Star volunteer), developing fantastic activities and conducting cool field trips.
Lars Rose ran 2 events for the GSS Saturday Science Days, wrote for the Science Creative Quarterly, helped at the All Science Challenge, went on a Rural visit and also conducted 5 classroom visits with his partner Kendra Getty (All-Star volunteer), developing fantastic activities and conducting cool field trips.
Lillian Ting visited her class 6 times, conducting great activities such as plate techtonics using fruit rollups and pudding, food web interactions and decomposers using yeast, sugar and balloons. She also helped out at 2 science fairs.
Mona Wu conducted 8 visits with her classroom along with fellow All Star volunteer Rachel Moll
Rachel Moll was the primary organizer for the All Science Challenge, provided a Professional Development Workshop for out volunteers (she is a PhD student in education with a MSc in physics) and also conducted 8 classroom visits with her partner Mona Wu (All-Star volunteer).
Nadia Pietravalle went on 2 Rural visits, conducted 6 classroom visits, helped at the All Science Challenge, conducted an activity for a GSS Saturday Science Day, helped run activities at the Killarney, CEDAR and Monck Provincial Park Day camps, and helped judged science fairs in French.
Paul Lusina helped at a UBC Bookstore event, the Killarney day camp, presented at the Prince of Wales Science Week, volunteered at 2 science fairs and conducted 2 classroom visits.
Sara Harbord volunteered at 3 science fairs, presented at the Prince of Wales Science Week, organized the Killarny Day Camp, helped out at the Harry Potter UBC Bookstore event and conducted 2 classroom visits.
Seth Gilchrist did a classroom visit, went on a Rural visit to Kelowna, helped at the All Science Challenge, helped out at the Killarney Summer Day camp, conducted an activity at the Langley Science and Nature store, and participated in a GSS Saturday Science Day.
Sasha Wilson visited her class 5 times in 3 weeks! They explored a whole bunch of physics activities, from why full balloons travel further than less full balloons, Newton's 3rd law using vinegar, baking soda and a pop bottle and momentum using coins, a water glass and a sheet of paper.
Theresa Liao wrote for the Science Creative Quarterly, conducted activities at 2 GSS Saturday Science Days, helped organize the All Science Challenge, presented at the Prince of Wales Science Week and helped out at the Monck Provincial Park Day Camp.
Tiphaine Jeanniard du Dot judged 4 science fairs in French, presented at the Prince of Wales Science Week, helped at the All Science Challenge and conducted 2 classroom visits.
